The modified camera's auto exposure modes work with visible light. This doesn't mean the exposure will be right for the infrared image. In this case if this was a visible light image I would have had to shoot in the dark and wait for the burner to get really bright. Instead used a non infrared light source for the focusing, and a burner that was barely on.
